How it began...

Amy always insisted that she met Scott in a “normal, respectable way,” which was technically true if you consider arguing with a stranger in the Bunnings car park at 7:42 on a Saturday morning to be normal. They were both reaching for the last remaining flat trolley—the one with only a slight wobble—when Amy accused Scott of stealing it with “the confidence of a man who’s never assembled furniture alone.” Scott replied that he had assembled furniture alone, once, and it had only collapsed twice. This mutual lack of credibility formed the foundation of their relationship. Their first real conversation happened in Aisle 12, where Scott was attempting to locate a specific bolt he did not know the name of, the size of, or the purpose for. Amy, armed with a phone screenshot and an alarming level of certainty, declared, “That’s not a bolt, that’s a washer,” despite being equally wrong. They bonded over this shared misunderstanding and decided the only sensible next step was to grab a coffee, mostly to calm down and partly because neither of them could remember why they’d come to Bunnings in the first place. Their first date was chaotic, as all great love stories are. Scott suggested fish and chips by the beach, but they were immediately attacked by seagulls with military precision. Amy lost a chip, Scott lost his dignity, and a very bold pelican made prolonged eye contact with them while swallowing something whole. They laughed so hard that they forgot to be embarrassed, which turned out to be an early indicator that this might be something serious. As their relationship grew, so did their collection of mildly disastrous shared experiences. There was the camping trip where Scott insisted he could “eyeball” tent instructions, resulting in a structure best described as “conceptual.” There was the dinner party where Amy confidently said, “I’ll just wing it,” and produced a meal that required three separate sauces to remain socially acceptable. Somehow, instead of running away, they kept choosing each other, again and again, like two people who genuinely enjoyed chaos but preferred to face it as a team. The moment Scott realised he was in love came when Amy, without hesitation, defended him during an argument about whether pineapple belongs on pizza. She didn’t even like pineapple on pizza—she just believed in him. Amy, meanwhile, knew she loved Scott when he spent an entire afternoon helping her look for something she was already holding. Neither of them mentioned it at the time, but both quietly thought, Yep. This is it. Scott’s proposal was meticulously planned… in theory. In reality, nerves caused him to forget half his speech, drop the ring, and propose while kneeling in a slightly damp patch of grass. Amy thought he was tying his shoe at first. When he finally managed to say, “Will you marry me?” it came out sounding like a question, a statement, and a mild apology all at once. Amy said yes immediately, then laughed, then cried, then made him promise never to tell anyone how long it took him to stand back up. And so, through misplaced confidence, questionable decision-making, and an unwavering commitment to laughing at themselves, Amy and Scott became engaged. Their story isn’t about fate or destiny—it’s about timing, teamwork, and finding the one person who will argue with you in a hardware store and still want to have coffee afterward. Which, honestly, is the truest love story there is.

Walkabout Creek

<a href="https://www.walkaboutcreek.com.au" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Walkabout Creek</a> is a hidden gem of a venue located in the D’Aguilar National Park on the western outskirts of Brisbane, just past The Gap. Our whole wedding from start to finish will take place at the venue. The ceremony will be signposted and can be found to the right of the entrance to the cafe. There is an approximately 200m gentle downhill walk to the location. Happy hour will be held on The Deck, and the reception will be held in the Ferntree Room. In the case of wet weather, we will relocate the ceremony to The Deck which is totally undercover, so don't worry about getting wet (still bring an umbrella though)! During Happy Hour, everyone is welcome to have a look around the discovery centre. We may even be able to get a private tour organised by one of the park rangers!

Getting there

The location is serviced by taxis and Ubers, and at the end of the night we will organise a lift for anyone who hasn't got one. Please ensure that you arrive at Walkabout Creek around 2.00pm to allow enough time to park and walk to the ceremony location.

Parking

The venue has plenty of free parking available for those driving. Enter at the "Welcome to Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre" sign and find a park anywhere.

Kids?

Here's the situation with kids... This definitely isn't a kid-free wedding, because we will have a few immediate family kids attending, but if you can reasonably make alternative arrangements then please do so. If you really need to or want to bring your cherubs, then that's cool with us! We do however ask that you assist us by covering their costs. Kids up to 12 years old are $63 (yeah, we know!) and will get a kids meal, and teenagers up to 17 are $155 (yeah, we still know!) and will get the full meal and non-alcoholic drinks. We also ask they they join in the fun, be social, dance and enjoy themselves. There won't be a separate kid's table, and no phones, tablets or game consoles please! Let us know if you'd like us to tack any kids onto your RSVP and we'll sort it out for you!

Where to stay

Due to the secluded location of our rainforest venue, accommodation options are quite limited. There are a handful of airbnb locations nearby if you prefer, but for traditional hotel/motel accommodation, you'll need to head to Mitchelton (15 mins), Chermside (25 mins) or the CBD (20 minutes). <a href="https://www.brookhotel.com.au" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Brook Hotel</a> at Mitchelton provides 10% off some of their rates using the code BROOKEVENT when booking directly with them. If you do book hotel/motel accommodation, please let us know where so we can point others to the same or nearby locations to make it easier for a taxi or Uber from the venue. Accommodation

Relaxed semi-formal

Our dress code is relaxed semi-formal. A nice dress or skirt, or a button-up shirt and chinos or trousers fits the bill. You can wear any colour you like. We'll be up in the hills during Brisbane's early winter, so expect it to be warm during the day and cool overnight. Bring a jacket! We want you all looking and feeling like your best self, and make sure you're comfortable and ready to celebrate!

Food

Anyone who knows us knows that we like our food a little on the fancy side! We hope you love the meals as much as we do (and we promise they're not too fancy). For our reception menu we have a two-course meal served as an alternate drop and to finish on a sweet note, we'll have our delicious wedding cake served up.

Drinks

The bar will open at 4.00pm and close at 9.30pm. We'll have beer, wine and soft drinks available at no cost, with spirits, cocktails and others available for purchase (EFTPOS or cash). Please note the venue is not BYO.
